While the Rolling Stones remind us “you can’t always get what you want,” ineffective communication may get slower results than what you want! Have you ever been in an open board meeting and a homeowner asks you a specific question that you are not confident in answering? How should you respond? How do you effectively communicate with a board member that points out every mistake you make? How do you keep your emotions in check when you feel a team member is throwing you under the bus? Every day in our industry we communicate with one another verbally and nonverbally. We use the technological tools available to us like the phone and computer in hopes of get things completed quicker. But are we really saving any time?

In this interactive session at the 2019 CAI Conference and Expo, Attorney Gabriella Comstock and Professional Community Association Manager Jennifer Stopka explain the impact on our communication styles. With every form of communication, we send a message and HOW we send that message will determine if our communication is effective. We will play out real industry scenarios with different communication techniques that will demonstrate effective vs. ineffective communication.

Have you created and sent out a community wide email blast with the same message, but somehow it was perceived differently? Ever woke up and you just knew it was going to be a bad day? This session will also explain what emotional intelligence is and how it directly correlates with our communication. You will be provided with tips and tools on how you can get your message across that leaves your listener with an informed, positive exchange.

Paul J. Meyer said, “Communication-the human connection-is the key to personal and career success.”
