CAI Illinois Conference & Expo: HOA Q&A Panel
CAI’s Homeowner Leader Education Committee has prepared an innovative session for Board Members to interact with leading industry professionals through a panel discussion format. This session allows for follow up interaction from the conference education sessions Pillars of Structural Safety: Funding and Pillars of Structural Safety: Maintenance. Legal, property management, banking, insurance, engineering and capital reserve planning professionals will provide insight to guide your communities.
Discussions surrounding planning for capital-intensive projects in a timely manner can be challenging for many Boards. Making informed decisions that maintain the investment of the owners in your community is part of any Board’s fiduciary obligation, and it’s imperative that Boards are equipped with the tools to make such decisions.
The maintenance education program will help to understand the importance of having a maintenance schedule for general upkeep, preventative maintenance and deferred maintenance and the reasons behind utilizing it. Putting off maintenance will always cost your association more in the long run and may expose your association to unnecessary liability. You’re only prolonging the inevitable and it will certainly have a negative impact on your community. Not only that, but it can also be dangerous in the present. With the right planning, budgeting, cooperation from homeowners, and response from the board, your association can avoid the dangers of deferred maintenance and keep everyone safe.
There is no pre-set presentation for this session; this unique opportunity allows participants to guide the conversation to the information most important to their association. Start thinking of your questions now so you can make the most of this session’s knowledgeable professionals. Don’t have any questions off the top of your head? While we find many discussion topics are prompted by another person’s question or response, this is still the perfect time to network with other board members, in addition to our speakers, so you have resources to reach out to in the future.
