Annual elections are required for every Association, but they can also be one of the most stressful times of the year for managers and Board members alike. The legal requirements surrounding an election that are dictated by the statutes and each association’s declaration can be overwhelming, and then you have to figure out the logistics. Add in the drama and concerns from owners about the use of proxies, and it is understandable that the election voting process can be a crazy.

With the current pandemic and the related stay-at-home orders, in person elections, with the use of proxies and ballots, have certainly become more complicated as well. While most people can be adverse to change, this is a great time to reboot your election process to make the annual election voting process easier for the Board, management and the owners. Our session is focused on providing you with a way to handle elections that will minimize the drama associated with proxies, and allow the Board to conduct virtual and in person election meetings with greater ease.

Managing the Electronic Voting Process for Annual Elections at the 2021 Conference and Expo will address the legal and practical requirements to utilize electronic voting in your election. We will also discuss some common pitfalls associated with the process, as well as address some common questions such as what to do about nominations from the floor and owners who don’t use email. We intend to show the procedures needed to switch to electronic voting, how electronic voting works, and the best way to implement it for your association. This is especially important as associations may have to continue using virtual meetings, instead of in person meetings, for the near future.
