If you’re a licensed CAM in Illinois, chances are the new CE credit requirements from IDFPR have you feeling a little stressed. 2025 marks the first license renewal year where continuing education (CE) credits are required — and many managers are in a tizzy! The good news? It’s simpler than it seems. Let’s break it down.

What’s Required

To renew your CAM license by August 31, 2025, you’ll need to complete 12 hours of continuing education. Wondering where to earn those hours? IDFPR has a full list of approved courses and providers at idfpr.illinois.gov/profs/cam.html — just look for Approved CAM Education Sponsors and Courses.

Each listing includes:

  • Course type: CE courses are for current license holders; Pre-License and Exam courses are only for those seeking licensure.
  • Hours: Each hour = one CE credit.
  • Delivery method: Choose from live in-person classes, live webinars (which may or may not be recorded), or self-paced online distance courses.

If you’re unsure whether a course qualifies or how it’s delivered, contact the provider directly.

Don’t Forget the Mandatory Training

All CAM license holders must complete Sexual Harassment Prevention Training each renewal cycle. It counts as 1 CE hour and can either be included in your 12 hours or earned separately — but it’s required. CAI Illinois offers an approved course free of charge at learn.cai-illinois.org/p/SexualHarassmentPrevention.

Timing Matters

CE hours must be earned within the renewal cycle. For the 2025 renewal, only hours completed between September 1, 2023, and August 31, 2025 will count. Anything earned outside this window won’t apply.

Track Your Hours

While many wish for a centralized tracking system, it’s your responsibility to keep track of your CE hours. Always request and save a CE certificate after completing a course. Store these in a dedicated folder on your computer so you can easily access them if needed. IDFPR may audit your application and request proof, even though certificates should not be submitted with your renewal.

How to Renew

You can complete your renewal online at idfpr.illinois.gov/profs/cam.html or download a PDF application under License Maintenance. The renewal fee is $300, and you’ll be asked to confirm via affidavit that you’ve met the CE requirements.
