President – Cathy Ryan, CMCA®, AMS® PCAM®
President and Chief Executive Officer with over 30 years of experience at Property Specialists, Inc, Ms. Ryan is well versed in all aspects of property management. Along with overseeing the operations of the company, she continues to oversee portfolio managers to ensure quality work to their client associations. In addition to her service at PSI, she volunteers for many charitable functions benefiting Special Olympics and sits on the Editorial Board for one of our industry’s informational magazines. Ms. Ryan was instrumental in developing PSI’s in-house Board Member Training Program, where she currently serves as a class instructor. She is currently the President of the Chapter and is beginning her fourth year on the Chapter’s Finance Committee.
President Elect – Sheila Malchiodi
Sheila is a Business Development Manager for the multifamily and commercial industry with Inside Out Company. With her background in construction, project management and real estate, she utilizes those skills to assist communities with their capital improvement projects. Her focus on strong communication and a take charge style of leadership has brought her to CAI where she serves on 3 committees and recently joined the Board of Directors. As an avid volunteer and advocate for harmony in community association living, Sheila has become a “go-to” resource for many areas and gives back to the CAI community at every opportunity. Having been involved with this industry for over 7 years, she has been featured in several industry publications, has won awards for her leadership and continues to serve as a volunteer in many trade organizations and local charities.
Vice President – Jessica Towles, CMCA®, AMS® PCAM®
Jessica is an experienced community management professional with broad experience in maintaining all aspects of community associations and management company administration, including facilities management, financial management and building strong customer relationships. She is currently the Vice President and the Director of Active Adult Communities for Foster Premier, Inc., overseeing large scale active adult communities in the greater Chicagoland area.
Jessica also serves our manager members as a Board Member on the national board of directors for the Association of Professional Community Managers (APCM) and is a member of the National Faculty for the Community Associations Institute teaching the M:100 course across the country. She has earned her PCAM and AMS designations through CAI and the CMCA designation through CAM-ICB (Community Association Managers International Certification Board). Jessica has been a guest on the CAI IL Radio Show and has written articles for a variety of local and national trade organizations specializing in topics related to training, team building, relationship building, quality management and disaster recovery.
Treasurer – Anthony Dister
Anthony Dister currently serves as a Vice President of Community Advantage, a Wintrust Company, and is responsible for new business development and portfolio management for their management company and association clients. Anthony has been in the Banking industry for over 15 years and has specialized in providing financial services to community associations throughout the Midwest for the last 13 years. Anthony is actively involved with the CAI-IL Chapter having chaired the Committee for Community Development from 2011-2014. The focus of this committee was to generate interest, new membership and awareness of CAI in areas which were traditionally underserved by the chapter. Anthony currently serves on the CAI Finance Committee as Committee Chair. Anthony previously held a CMCA designation, was a recipient of the CAI Rising Star award in 2007 and CAI Olympus Service Award in 2016. Anthony is also involved with many other industry related trade groups and volunteers time to various charities.
Secretary – Jack Thew, DCAL
After attending Cornell University, Jack returned home to the family orchard business in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York, The next 7 years were spent growing the business including adding new storage and juice processing technology.
In 1965 Jack took a position with Shell Chemical Company in Princeton, NJ which led to a 25 year career in the agricultural chemicals industry in the areas of product development and sales and marketing. This took him to various locations including New York City, Modesto and Walnut Creek, California, Lincoln Nebraska, Houston, Texas and Naperville, Illinois.
As a result of a corporate buyout, Jack transferred to the DuPont Chemical Company as a Sr. Representative responsible for the professional farm management sector of the business calling on bank trust departments and insurance companies throughout the Midwest Corn Belt.
Jack left DuPont in 1990 and with his wife Terry started a retail wine, flower and gourmet food store in Naperville. In 2002 he partnered with several customers in another retail wine venture in Lisle. In 2009 he accepted a position with a wine retail wine store in Glen Ellyn.
Fully retired in 2013 and after serving in two community associations as President, Vice-President and Director for nearly 20 years, he is now devoting his time to volunteer work including being a designated Cornell Alumni Ambassador helping student applicants through the admission process, judging science fairs and participating in high school career days, CAI, The Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation and liaison person for the Windridge of Naperville Condominium Association. He is also active in the Illinois 84th District legislative activities and sits on its Citizens Advisory Board.
Jack and Terry have resided in Naperville for nearly forty years; have three daughters a son, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Julie Hardy Cramer, DCAL
Cindy Fitts, CIRMS®
Cindy Fitts earned her Bachelors of Art in Business Management from Aurora University. She has been an Account Executive with CISA Insurance since 2002 where she educates community association boards and association managers on insurance and industry law requirements.
Cindy has been a participating member of CAI since 2002 where she started serving on the Membership Directory committee. She then served on the Program Committee, the Legal Forum/Conference Education Committee and is currently serving on the Chapter Board of Directors and as the Co-Chair to the ILAC Fundraising Committee. She enjoys volunteering at events and attending industry functions!!
She earned her CAI Community Insurance & Risk Management Specialist-CIRMS designation in 2013 and is also a CAI Educated Business Partner.
Diane Pagoulatos, DCAL
Diane F. Pagoulatos attended North Park University in Chicago, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Literature. She studied further at Northeastern, Northwestern, and Lewis Universities. She taught French, Spanish, E.S.L. at the junior high level for thirty-three years in Community Consolidated School District # 15 in Palatine, Il. During her teaching career, she dealt with diverse ethnic and linguistic populations and helped established harmonious relationships between parents, teachers, administrators and elected school board officials. Teaching foreign languages prepared her to develop good communication and people skills that apply to everyday life and business environments.
Speaking several languages fluently, she worked as an interpreter at O’Hare International Airport and for various airlines during summers of her teaching career. This experience gave her insights into dealing with international passengers and cultural customs of the world.
Currently retired and living in a community of 211 Unit Townhomes and Condominiums a named Whispering Lake Subdivision in Lake Bluff, Illinois, Diane has served on the Association Board of the Umbrella / Master as well as serving on the Townhome Board as Secretary and Treasurer of the Association. She has initiated and developed the Whispering Lake Website with another Board Member, as well as serving on the Social, Landscaping, and Rules Committees for several years.
Diane is passionate about educating and assisting homeowners in Association Best Practices and directs many homeowners to proper channels when they wish to educate themselves about serving on a Board and creating harmonious community living. She has participated as a moderator and organizer in many seminars in the industry.
Diane has served as past Vice-President of ACTHA. She has served on the Events, Education, Legislative, and Membership Committees of ACTHA. She enjoys networking with other homeowners to foster better relations between Association boards, unit owners, management companies and vendors.
Charles Perry, CMCA®, AMS® PCAM®
Charles Perry is currently the Director of Business Development for Lieberman Management Services (LMS) in Elk Grove Village. He is responsible for generating new business for LMS in the suburban market as well as managing existing client relationships and account retention. Before joining the new business team, Charles was a Senior Portfolio Manager at LMS for five years and excelled at building strong client relationships, communicating effectively with customers, vendors, and staff, and adding true value to his portfolio. Prior to joining LMS in 2009, Charles was a property manager and leasing agent. He has a total of 15 years in property management. Charles has a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology and Sociology from Rockford University. He is CMCA, AMS, and PCAM certified and is a CAI Board Member, is co-chair of the CAI Illinois Legislative Action Committee and a member of the CAI-National Government & Public Affairs committee.
Robert Prince, Esq.
Judy Rowe, CMCA®, AMS® PCAM®
Judy Rowe is the Director of Supervisors for Community Specialists. Judy’s 40 years experience in the management and operations of Chicago properties includes residential, commercial office and retail facilities. Currently Judy is responsible for the supervision and direction of Community Specialists management teams both corporate and on-site staff. Judy provides assistant on labor relations and employee issues as well as directing the monthly management training sessions.
The Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management awarded Judy its Accredited Residential Manager Leadership Award (ARM) in 1981 and named her Accredited Residential Manager of the Year in 1989. In 2005, Judy earned the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation. Through the Community Association Institute Judy earned both the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) and Association Management Specialists (AMS). In 2015, the Community Association Institute, Illinois Chapter named Judy the Manager of the Year.
Judy is a past President and current director of ABOMA, Apartment Building Owners and Managers Association. She serves on the Labor Negotiation Committee with SEIU Local 1 contract negotiations and on the Education Committee which is developing continuing education programs for Illinois licensed community association managers. She is a Management Trustee for the Local 1 SEIU Training Fund and is currently a member of the Certified Residential Engineer Program Development Task Force and will serve as an instructor for the course.
Pat is a Board member of the Oaks Club Townhome Association of Elgin. He is currently serving as 1st Vice-President for 10 years. He was former President of the Oaks Club Townhome Association and was also president of the Hickory Hollow Home Owners association for 12 years. Pat is a retired marketing executive for 40+ years. He is a former member of the Illinois Real Estate Administration and Disciplinary Board for 17 years and Illinois Tollway Advisory Board for 6 years. He is a former Deputy Director of the IIS serving under Governor Richard Ogilvie. He has served as President of the local Chamber of Commerce, World Trade Council, United Way, Rotary and many local charities. He is currently working on completion of DCAL certification.
Asa Sherwood, CMCA®, AMS® PCAM®
Asa is the President of FirstService Residential, Illinois. In this capacity, he guides FirstService Residential’ s associate workforce to support and drive overall growth of one of Illinois largest residential management firms. Asa leads with open-mindedness, collaboration and a drive for world-class excellence. His goal is to ensure all associates have what they need to deliver memorable service and value-added solutions to all clients. Over the past 10 years Sherwood has held numerous roles in the condominium property management industry, beginning with his family owned business in Birmingham, Michigan. Prior to joining FirstService Residential in 2013, he served as a Senior Vice President of another Chicago condominium management firm where he managed a portfolio of prominent high-rises. Asa has a long track record of corporate level training, focusing on technology, customer service, problem solving, and team building. Asa has a Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA), an Association Management Specialist (AMS) certification, a Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designation, and is a Licensed Illinois Community Association Manager.
